2023 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 2

The Guam International Raceway this past Sunday hosted for perhaps its last time another high flying round of the bar banging Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships. Because of a CLTC eviction notice giving families that use the facility the boot so to speak to get out by March 2nd of this year they will have nowhere to pursue their passion for speed and competition legally and in a safe controlled regulated environment with their families and friends. Several of our islands Senators came to check out the racing and to express their support for the Guam International Raceway and to all those who have come to call it Guam’s home for motorsports. Senators San Nicolas, Quinata, Parkinson, and San Augustine were in attendance in support of the racers, their families and keeping the Guam International Raceway open for all the islands enthusiasts and stated they would work towards that goal. If anyone is interested in supporting the Guam International Raceway they can go to Guamraceway.com to sign the online petition.

Round 2 racing kicked off at 10:30am under sunny conditions and a cool ocean breeze and with the course conditions being perfect for great day of motocross.

Highlights and results
In the Open Motorcycle class defending champion JR Cepeda aboard his 1 plated Yamaha took the overall win but was kept honest once again by a hard charging 31 Tim Wenden abord a KTM. After Cepeda had taken the win in heat one heat two had the two leaders with Cepeda leading and Wenden on his rear wheel in second in a scrappy battle that had everyone on their feet. The two had separated themselves from the rest of the field by midway into the second heat and had only each other to contend with. It was looking as if Cepeda who was riding strong was going to take the win as the heat began to wind down when Wenden surged forward to make his move on Cepeda catching perhaps the champ off guard to take the lead and the heat two win. Cepeda was still the overall round 2 winner with a first and a second-place finish while Wenden took silver with a fourth and a first place finish. Round 2 results are as follows.
