2023 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 3

The Guam International Raceway this past Sunday hosted round 4 of the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships under ideal conditions both on the course and with the weather which had graciously provided a full day of tropical blue skies accompanied by a comforting cool ocean breeze. It was yet another great day of racing for all the racers, along with their fans, families and friends that all came together at the Guam International Raceway this past Sunday afternoon for an adrenaline filled display of dirt roosting motocross. With the highly anticipated return after a several year absence due to covid restrictions the APL Guam Smokin Wheels Weekend had racers buzzing with excitement Sunday along with their families who were all stepping it up a notch in preparation of this upcoming prestigious event scheduled for April 21st through the 22nd. With international motocross stars Dr.D Doug Dubach and local boy 505 Sean Lipanovich flying in from the USA and with New Zealands James Robo Robinson returning for another go at our local stars this years 40th running of the APL Guam Smokin Wheels is going to be one not to want to miss. Joining them will be a host of racers from Japan along with the island of Saipan who are all making their preparations for what is shoring up to be a historic event.

Many of our local racers are still very concerned that because the Guam Racing Federation having been served by the Chamorro Land Trust Commission with an eviction that is giving the many island families who call the raceway their home for motorsports until the end of May of this year to get out that their days of being together with friends and family at the park will soon be at an end. Sadly and most unfortunately for all of our islands residents legal motorsports on Guam will be soon coming to an end. There is some hope with Bill 56-37 which is currently at the legislature and waiting on being brought forward by the current speaker that Guams only home for motorsports might be able to remain. This bill 56-37 has the support of Senators San Nicolas, Quinata, Parkinson, and San Augustine who have all been in attendance at the raceway in support of the racers, their families and keeping the Guam International Raceway open for all the islands people.. Highlights and results
In the Open Motorcycle class defending champion JR Cepeda aboard his 1 plated Yamaha took the overall win but had tough competition in the form of 31 Timothy Wenden aboard a RMP supported KTM. Wenden took the early lead in heat one and held off the champ Cepeda to the checkers for the win. Heat two saw Cepeda light up as he not only took the early lead he proceeded to smoke the rest of the field by midway. Heat one winner Wenden in the final five minutes of the heat did manage to close in on the leader Cepeda but simply couldn’t get close enough to challenge. Cepeda took the round 4 win and remains the current Monster Energy Guam Open class motorcycle championship points leader. 85 Blaze Aiken and 18 Little Jon Aguon both riders aboard team CyclesPlus Kawasaki’s battled it out fori third with Aiken taking that final step on the podium. In the Open Atv class Kawasaki mounted 26 George Santos was flawless as he out rode and wore his competition out to sweep both heats or the win. 27 James Lujan on his Yamaha and 4 Robert Bucek on the Cycles Plus Suzuki duked it out for second with Lujan having been reeled in in the first heat by Bucek who made the pass into second only to have Lujan pull to far ahead to catch in the second heat. Lujan took second overall with Bucek left to finish in third. Round 4 results are as follows

Up next on 2023 GIRMAC motocross schedule will be Round 5 of the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships on Easter Sunday March 26th.
