Humåtak’s Guam History and Chamoru Heritage Day Festival.Motocross
It’s been over 275 days since the CLTC’s eviction from the Guam International Raceway in Yigo that has left the island motocross riders and their families with out a safe and permanent facility. So it was with great pleasure and enthusiasm that when it was announced that the beautiful southern village of Humåtak would host the Guam History and Chamoru Heritage Day Festival Motocross in their village located right next to the iconic Humatak bridge racers along with family and supporters got themselves ready for some island style high flying and bar banging motocross racing . The village opened itself up to our islands racers and allowed seven days a week of riding for the entire month of March to help promote rider safety, sportsmanship, and quality family time.
This past Sunday the Guam Motocross Club held its first motocross racing event in over eight month on an easy to moderate level course that would lend itself to all levels and sizes of competitor’s. Racing kicked off early just before lunch and included classes for ages from 4 years and up. The racing lasted for several hours as each class competed in two heats that would combine their results for an overall finish.
In the premier two wheeled class the Open Motorcycle 18 Little Jon Aguon aboard his Cycles Plus Kawasaki 450 wasted no time grabbing the lead off the start and then holding it to the finish. Blaze Aiken also a Cycles Plus supported rider took a strong second aboard the 85 Kawasaki 250 with 11 Mike Limtiaco taking third on his Husqvarna 350. In the their second heat it was the 18 of Little Jon Aguon once again leaping his Kawasaki up into the lead again followed by the 85 of Blaze Aiken and the 11 of Mike Limtiaco. The high flying trio ripped around the southern Humatak village course putting on a clinic for all to enjoy. Overall it was the 18 of Little Jon Aguon with the dominate win with the 85 of Blaze Aiken in second and the 11 of Mike Limtiaco in third. 51 Frank Rios finished just off the podium in fourth with 20 Zack Cruz in fifth rounding out the top 5.
In the premier four wheeler class the open ATV the heat one action lit up the crowd as the earth seemed to shake as the four wheelers thundered down the start straight and squeezed their machines into the first turn. The 88 Yamaha mounted GMSI supported Camillo Lorenzo emerged from the stampeding herd of atvs out front and in command. Lorenzo proceeded to pull away from the pack which were all in what can only be described as a true dog fight. At the finish it was Lorenzo taking the heat one win with Cycles Plus Suzuki rider 2 Robert Bucek in second and 11 John Gilman on a Yamaha in third. Heat two saw the same thundering start but with the 23 of Aaron Blaz up front on his Yamaha with the 27 of James Lujan in second and the 2 of Bucek in third. On the first lap Lujan drifted allowing the 2 of Bucek to slip into second and onto the rear bumper of the leader Blaz. Blaz went a bit wide allowing the veteran Bucek to steal the lead. At the halfway point of the second heat Bucek was out front with Lujan in second and Lorenzo in third. The trio held their positions until the checkers giving Bucek the overall win Lorenzo took second overall with Lujan third overall. Rounding out the top five respectively were 11 John Gilman and 23 Aaron Blaz.
